priced at $13,535, including an $875 destination charge, according to the Chevrolet vehicle configurator.

The pricing reflects a $440 increase over the base 2015 Spark.

The top-of-the-line 2016 Spark 2LT with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) starts at $18,160, including shipping, for a price increase of $800 over the comparable 2015 model.

Premium Black Granite metallic exterior paint adds $225 to the bottom line.

The Spark is equipped with a new 98-horsepower Ecotec 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine linked to a five-speed manual transmission. The CVT is optional.

The EPA has not released the fuel economy numbers on the 2016 Spark.

A key vehicle in the Chevrolet portfolio, the Spark is designed to attract younger and first-time buyers and keep them loyal to the brand as they grow up.

The redesign features "more traditional proportions," according to GM. The changes include a more conventional roof line than the 2015 model.

Key Spark competitors include the Fiat 500, Smart Fortwo and Mitsubishi Mirage.

Edmunds says: The 2016 Spark features a new engine and a new look, along with a relatively modest price increase.
